Grasshoppers, Katydids & Crickets

Years ago, while watching my son’s baseball game, I noticed a beautiful green grasshopper land nearby. Its vibrant yellow and green stripes and delicate transparent wings caught my attention. “Come and see,” I called to the toddler beside me, hoping she would notice how remarkable it was.

Instead, she hopped down, bent to examine it, scrunched up her little nose, and stomped it flat. My own children would have considered it a treasure — a rare and wonderful discovery.

That simple moment planted the seed for this book. I hope these pages inspire children and adults alike to remember that not every six-legged creature needs to end up on the bottom of a shoe
